Sensing The Living

Sensing The Living
Enliven Your Body & Physical Connection to the Earth

Sensing The Living is a weekly class that offers you a place to ground your energy in the earth, reconnect with your body, activate your natural energy and rejuvenate your spirit by using movement and mindfulness practices.

If you are looking for...
more fluidity and joy in your body
a deep physical connection to nature
a heightened ability to connect to the present moment
and a profound sense of belonging to the natural world

then this class is for you!

$12 - $15 per class
$10 for Members of The Woodlands
Advanced registration not required.

Class Schedule:
Mondays, from 5:30PM - 7:00PM
September 12th
September 19th
September 26th
October 3rd

Each class will invite you to gently and playfully explore your relationship to the earth through movement, using open-ended movement prompts and simple awareness exercises. You will be invited to connect intimately with nature and the beautiful landscape of the Woodlands by listening deeply to the sounds and movements of the land and inviting them into your own physical & sensory awareness. Using touch, sight & sound, you will be invited to let the natural elements of the landscape affect your body, to move in response to them, and in doing so, create your own spontaneous dances with the earth!

Each week the group will meet in front of the Hamilton Mansion and then walk together to the area where we will hold class. We will explore a different, somewhat secluded, section of The Woodlands each week and we will cultivate a relationship with each other and each place over the course of our practice.

If you are looking for a safe space to dive deeply into your sensory awareness, to move your body with compassion and curiosity, to play, breath, feel, rest, stretch, act, react and discover how your body and soul want to move in relation to the earth – then come move and dance with us!

Please bring a full bottle of water with you and come in your movement clothes (as there is no changing room available).

Jenny Roe Sawyer is the founder and Artistic Director of From The Earth Dance Project, a dance company whose mission is to connect humans more deeply to the natural world. From The Earth Dance Project creates original site-specific choreography and offers outdoor nature-based movement classes and workshops, which are designed to offer participants meaningful ways to re-connect to nature through their own physical, emotional and somatic experiences. From The Earth began in 2012 with the creation of UPSTREAM, a duet in the Wissahickon Creek. Since then, UPSTREAM has been presented in the East Brook of the Morris Arboretum (2013) and in Spring Creek during the Central PA Festival of the Arts (2015). This year From The Earth premiered a new commissioned work In The Quiet at the Morris Arboretum. Jenny also currently dances for Graffito Works, an improvisational performance group, performs regularly in the H-O-T Series of Philadelphia and has recently performed with Vervet Dance and <fidget>. Jenny was also a founding member of Mascher Space Cooperative and has danced with Philadelphia New Music and Dance Ensemble, Philly Contact Collective, Lo Roe Productions, and Mascher Dance Group in the past. Jenny has been studying and practicing improvisational movement and performance for over 20 years. She teaches Contact Improvisation and outdoor improvisation classes & workshops in and around Philadelphia.
